Case study summary

From problem to prototype

1

The problem

Players outside metro academies discover trials through scattered groups and word of mouth. Even after applying, they often have no clear next step.
2

The player

Arjun, 17, stands in for an ambitious footballer looking for a trial that fits his position, age group and travel radius.
3

The strategy

Make relevant opportunities easy to scan, ask for only essential information, then show a visible application state.
4

The outcome

A high-fidelity mobile concept and clickable journey from discovery through application tracking. This is a prototype, not a measured launch.

01 / The challenge

Talent is everywhere. Access is not.

A player outside a major academy may rely on group chats, coaches and word of mouth to hear about a trial. Those leads can be hard to verify or compare, and applying often leads to silence. The design question: how might a player find an appropriate trial quickly and understand what happens after applying?

01

Discover trials without hunting through scattered groups

02

See why an opportunity fits age, position and location

03

Know whether an application has been received

02 / Understand & define

A player story shaped the brief.

The supplied concept uses Arjun, a 17-year-old player, to make the problem concrete. His needs drove the design priorities: nearby trials, a clear sense of fit and a dependable application trail. The reference does not document interview counts or test results, so these are design hypotheses rather than validated research findings.

Meet Arjun, 17

He wants a real chance to be seen, but a promising listing is only useful if it is relevant, within reach and possible to follow up. ScoutFlix keeps the decision points visible rather than asking him to search another group chat.

03 / Information architecture

Core user flow

  1. 01 · Set player profile
  2. 02 · Find a fitting trial
  3. 03 · Review the criteria
  4. 04 · Confirm & apply
  5. 05 · Track the status

04 / Ideate & make

Scratch → wireframe → high fidelity.

The same discovery-screen structure carries through all three stages: headline and player context, search, then a vertical list of trials with fit at a glance. The first two frames below are reconstructed design-process illustrations, not original research artifacts.

01 · Scratch layout

Start with the decision

A simple single-column feed keeps fit, title and location together before any decorative treatment.

02 · Lo-fi wireframe

Shape the hierarchy

The search and card stack retain the sketch structure, with space for fit, date and a clear next action.

03 · High fidelity

Clarity at phone scale

Dark UI, clear fit labels and persistent navigation carry the same layout into a clickable flow.

01

Frame

Define the gap between talent and opportunity: discovery, relevance and the silence after applying.

02

Map

Organise player profile, trial discovery, trial detail and application activity around one primary task.

03

Sketch

Try a single-column mobile feed with fit, location and timing visible before opening a trial.

04

Wireframe

Make discovery → detail → application → status a short, reversible flow with clear calls to action.

05

Prototype

Apply dark surfaces, high-contrast status cues and tappable controls; walk the end-to-end flow below.

05 / Product decisions

Make the next step obvious.

Rank by relevance

Put player fit, travel distance and trial timing on the card so the player can shortlist before tapping in.

Keep applying short

Review the player profile and the trial criteria; confirm once instead of re-entering the same details for every opportunity.

Close the loop

After submission, show a persistent status and the next expected step. An illustrative status is not a promise from a club.

06 / Pro concept

Pro sells outcomes, not features.

The supplied concept also explores a paid tier. The proposed distinction is a clearer path to the right trial—not a paywall on basic opportunity discovery. Before offering a subscription, the value, fairness and eligibility of any Pro benefit would need validation with players and organisers. No paid conversion or product-launch results are claimed here.

07 / High-fidelity prototype

Try the player journey.

08 / Testing & reflection

A clearer path, not a claimed result.

The deliverable is a mobile high-fidelity concept and clickable application flow. No live trial inventory, player-placement numbers or usability-test outcomes are documented. Next, observe whether players understand the fit labels, can complete an application without guidance and can find their status afterward. Validate listing accuracy and status updates with organisers before a real launch.
